Around the Tiers: National Recovery Month

(WBNG Binghamton) September is National recovery month, a national way to educate Americans on the benefits of addiction treatments and mental health services. Jeanette Tolson came by to talk about some up coming events.

Friday, August 30 at 3 p.m. Community Awareness Project Kickoff at the Southside Mall in Oneonta

During the month of September, several businesses and organizations in both Delaware and Otsego Counties have agreed to host community awareness displays and the kickoff event at the mall is the first display.

The displays consists of a cardboard silhouette of a person with an anonymous recovery story on the front and some brochures for our organization.

The recovery story is about a person who lives in Delaware or Otsego county and describes what has helped them in their recovery process.

Community members are invited to come to the mall to view the display and look for these around the community as well.

Wednesday, Sept. 4, 4-6 p.m. -Open House/Dessert Reception at The Turning Point-Oneonta, 22 Elm Street

The Turning Point-Oneonta opened in 2007 and has added a variety of new recovery support services and activities.

The community is invited to tour the community recovery center, talk to staff about the services that are provided, and observe a line dancing class.

Thursday, Sept. 26 6pm-4th Annual Celebrate Recovery Awards Dinner at the Holiday Inn, Oneonta

The dinner is both a fundraiser for Friends of Recovery and an opportunity for people who have made contributions to the recovery community to be honored. Tickets are $10 until 9/18/13 and include a pasta buffet, beverages, cake, and live music. During the evening there will be surprise giveaways. There will also be a silent auction.
