Binghamton’s Eastview, Westview Postal Stations to Close September 9

Binghamton, N.Y. (WBNG Binghamton) -- The United States Postal Service on Wednesday announced the closure of Binghamton’s Eastview and Westview Stations.

The final day of operation at each location will be Friday, September 9, 2011.

Approximately 56 post office box customers from Eastview Station and 288 post office box customers from Westview Station are being offered post office box service at the Binghamton Main Post Office. located at 115 Henry Street.

Postal officials note that customers electing to retain their box service will not have to change their address. Affected postal box customers may opt for street delivery of mail service in both communities. A change of address from a post office box number to a full street address is necessary, officials note.

Both Westview and Eastview Stations provide counter services and post office box mail only. No letter carriers work out of the stations and local mail delivery is not affected by this move. There is no acceptance of bulk business mail at either facility.

In addition to the Binghamton Main Post Office, postal services for local residents are available at Southview Station, located at 1213 Vestal Avenue. Weekday hours at Southview Station are 9 a.m. to 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. with business hours of 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.

The Binghamton Main Post Office Postal Station also houses a self-service kiosk, also known as an automated postal center, which performs a range of postal transactions including postage sales, shipping, ZIP Code lookup, post office box renewals and special services such as delivery confirmation or insurance, postal officials add. CVS, Walgreens and Weis Markets offer stamps priced at face value for additional access to basic postal products.

Window service hours at the Binghamton Post Office are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. The lobby opens 6 am through midnight for deposit and pick up of mails as well as for use of the self-serve kiosk.

The Eastview Station, 245 Robinson Street, will remain open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays through Saturday until the final day of service on Friday, September 9. Westview Station will continue normal operations in that period as well. Hours at the 146 Main Street location will run from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
