(WBNG Binghamton) on Friday, March 2, Chenango County Sheriff Ernest R. Cutting Jr. hosted the Sheriff's Office 20th annual awards program. The ceremony was held at the Sheriff's Office, with approximately 100 people in attendance.
The following members of the Sheriff's Office were honored with the following awards:
Sheriff Joseph J. Benenati Jr. Award -- Awarded for career achievements and outstanding performance in the field of Law Enforcement and/or Civil Division and/or Corrections. The award is named in honor of former Chenango County Sheriff Joseph J. Benenati Jr.
Recipient: Correction Officer Thomas B. Thompson
Officer Thompson is a 16-year veteran of the Sheriff's Office -- Correction Division. Officer Thompson is a certified Instructor, Firearms Instructor and Senior Field Training Officer. Officer Thompson's outstanding work ethic, dedication and professionalism has gained the respect and admiration of both co-workers and supervisors.
2011 Officer of the Year: Officer of the Year award is given to an employee that has shown outstanding performance and dedication to the Sheriff's Office.

Corrections: Correction Officer Derek R. Richardson
Communications: Public Safety Dispatcher Valerie L. Mohr
Civilian Employee: Civil Clerk Debby S. Monk
Sgt. Michael R. Friot Memorial Award (this award honors the memory and dedication of Sgt. Friot, a 17-year veteran of the Correction Division, who passed away in June 2010 after a long and courageous battle with cancer): Correction Sergeant Craig Hackett.
