At the request of the Mayor and the City Manager, the City of Elmira’s Department of Public Works will continue to pick up downed branches from this past week’s wind storms. This includes branches from street trees and privately owned trees. City wide, neatly stacked branches will be picked up from the curb until 3:30 p.m. on Friday, August 10, 2012. All property owners should make every effort to have branches to the curb by August 5, 2012.
To facilitate this process, and to insure that your branches are not missed, please call 737-5750 by August 6, 2012 to make arrangements to remove any tree branches. Residents who do not call this number risk the possibility of their branches being left at the curb. After the deadline, branches from private trees will no longer be removed.
Options for disposal after the deadlines:
1. Bring your branches free of charge to the City’s compost facility near the City DPW building. Directions can be found on the City’s website, www.cityofelmira.net.
2. Reserve a Dial-A-Truck from the City for a $30.00 fee (at the City Clerk’s Office.)
3. Hire a private contractor to pickup and remove the branches.
4. You can also compost any leafy material in your home compost bin.
