(WBNG Binghamton) Family Days in the Park will take place weekly in August in Broome County.
Starting Thursday, August 2, the KYDS Coalition, a local drug prevention community coalition, is hosting Family Days in the Park.
These weekly events, which take place in area parks between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m., will include free family-friendly activities such as entertainment, arts and crafts, fun snacks, games, and giveaways.
“Keeping Youth Drug-free and Safe is our goal,” says KYDS Coalition Project Specialist Melinda Kmetz. “It’s about bringing the community together. So many people want to make a difference, and together we can.”
The family nights are part of the coalition’s broader effort to make Broome County a better place to live. Founded in 2000, the Coalition is a unique collaboration of agencies, organizations and school district in the community.
The Coalition works to create opportunities for supportive, healthy, drug-free youth, families and neighborhoods in Broome County by strengthening existing partnerships between traditional and non-traditional prevention teams. It is funded by a federal grant, the Drug Free Communities Support Program Grant, through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) and the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP).
