Free Community Event Promotes Health on Oct. 15

(WBNG Binghamton) October 10, 2012 is the registration deadline for Step It Up!, a five-week walking program to promote a healthy lifestyle in the Southern Tier that runs from October 15 to November 19, as well as Sit and Be Fit on October 29 to learn chair exercises.

According to a news release:

The Kick-off Event for Step It Up! will be held on October 15. Participants will complete a community health survey and receive free health screenings, walking tips, and a walking log. At the End Event on November 19, each participant will receive a follow-up health screenings and be eligible for prize drawings including a George Foreman Grill and health and fitness items. All events begin at 6 p.m. at New Beginnings United Methodist, 300 East Miller Street in Elmira. Interested citizens can register by calling the Chemung County Health Department at (607) 737–2028.

In addition to the health department, Step It Up! sponsors include Arnot Health, Chemung Valley Rural Health Network, Creating Healthy Places, Elmira-Chemung Transportation Council, and the YWCA of Elmira and the Twin Tiers.
