December 4, 2012 Updated Dec 4, 2012 at 1:54 PM EDT

(WBNG Binghamton) Christmas is a special time of year at Whitney Place and the Rescue Mission is asking area residents, groups, businesses and churches to join us in reaching out in love to our residents.

According to a news release:

Every year, a variety of items are needed to fill stockings, distribute gifts, and make Christmas a season that will lift residents’ spirits and offer hope for the new year.

Items needed to fill stockings include batteries, personal care items (such as deodorant, disposable razors, shaving cream, lotion, bath soap or body wash), pens, shampoo, recovery Bibles, sport drinks, and water bottles.

Gifts of winter apparel and clothing may include new warm boots, hats, gloves, hooded sweatshirts, undergarments, and men’s socks sizes S-3XL.  Backpacks, headphones, bus passes, journals, pillows, slippers, sweatpants, thermal shirts, and thermal underwear will also make wonderful gifts.

Whitney Place residents also enjoy receiving gift cards to local establishments such as bowling alleys, movie theaters, local restaurants, and stores like Target and Subway.  Holiday treats such as cookies, soups and stews will also add to the festivities at Whitney Place.

It is requested that gifts arrive unwrapped and delivered to Whitney Place, located at 56-58 Whitney Avenue in Binghamton.
