(WBNG Binghamton) If you’re looking for holiday happenings to keep the kids entertained this month, The Discovery Center in Binghamton has plenty to offer.
According to a news release:
In addition to our usual interactive exhibits, our annual Village of Gingerbread is now open along with Santa’s Workshop. Come see the oh-so-yummy gingerbread creations on display now through January 6th. Santa’s Workshop is in full operation and visitors can tinker with toys and see how Santa’s elves build them.
Our award winning Parlor City Boy's Chorus will be giving their annual Holiday Concert at St. Ambrose Church, In Endicott, on Dec 14, 2012 at 7PM. The chorus will be holding auditions for new singers on January 7th, 2013 at The Discovery Center at 4-5 PM. While school is out, fun is in at The DC each day from 11am-2pm! Spend your days off from school with us for a week of great public programs inspired by upcoming movie releases, with free activities and crafts, and of course, play time in the museum. No registration required for public activities, but there may be sign-up sheets for our more popular offerings. All programming is included with the price of admission. Follow this schedule to be sure you get the best of what’s going on during winter break:
Wed., Dec. 26, Explore the fantastical world of Oz with a scavenger hunt, guided activities and group play scattered throughout the day. Inspired by the new movie “Dorothy of Oz,” opening in March 2013, our themed activities will bring out the magic in everyone!
Thurs., Dec. 27, The aliens are…escaping?! Come ready for a day of rocket-powered fun inspired by the upcoming film “Escape from Planet Earth,” opening in February 2013, including three very special Starlab planetarium presentations at 11:00 am, 12:30 pm, and 2 pm Signup is required, and visitors will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Fri., Dec. 28, Are you feeling a bit pixilated? The DC has the remedy as we spend the day exploring the many worlds of 8-bit video games from years past. Inspired by “Wreck It Ralph,” in theaters November 2012, we’ll be offering real-world activities and crafts sure to satisfy the gamer inside us all.
Mon., Dec. 31, 11am to 2pm. Our annual New Year’s Eve Family Bash is a trip around the world. The fun starts at 11 am when we ring in the New Year with the Philippines! From then on, we’ll visit a new country every hour. We’re celebrating by learning how to say “Happy New Year” in different languages, playing games, and ringing in the New Year across the time zones with balloons, party blowers and confetti. Why should all the fun just be for adults at midnight? Free with museum admission. Note: We close at 3 pm in observance of the holiday.

If the Binghamton City School is closed due to weather, The Discovery Center is closed.
