(WBNG Binghamton) The Village of Nichols' historic Kirby Park will officially re-open on Saturday May 4th.
According to a news release:
To mark the occasion a parade will be held, starting at 9:00 a.m., from the fire station to the Park. A ribbon-cutting ceremony and a chicken barbecue will also be held.
Baseball fans will also be able to enjoy the Nichols Little League's opening day.
The destruction caused to the Park by Tropical Storm Lee was enormous but over $153,000 has been raised by way of Federal and State funding, local business grants and donations, and community contributions to aid in the restoration efforts.
The only outstanding item is the removal and reconstruction of the bandstand. This project is on hold until the remainder of the FEMA funding is received.
