April 2, 2013 Updated Apr 2, 2013 at 12:21 PM EST

(WBNG Binghamton) On Thursday April 4, 2013, the Northside Neighborhood Assembly will hold its monthly meeting at the Centenary Chenango St Church located at 438 Chenango St (corner of Allen & Chenango).

According to a news release:

The meeting starts at 6 pm. The Assembly meeting is open to all Northside Residents, Business Owners, Non- Profit and Faith Based members who live work or play on the Northside.

Two major announcements will be shared at the meeting about new projects in the North Side: the I Love My Block event and the Binghamton Farm Share Around the Corner Pilot Project.

The first annual I Love My Block event on May 18th will provide residents from 10 blocks in the North Side with hanging flower baskets, flower bulbs and other plants to beautify their street.  Residents will complete a simple application to qualify their block for the event.  After the planting, residents will be invited to come together for a celebratory meal, at which a special prize will be awarded to the block that made the most improvement that day.

The Binghamton Farm Share Around the Corner Pilot Project will deliver weekly boxes of fresh, local farm produce directly to residents at several locations in the community.  SNAP benefits can be used to purchase the farm shares and they will be matched dollar for dollar with grant funds to allow residents to increase their purchasing power.  This project is being supported by the United Way and several community organizations.

More details on both of these projects will be provided at the meeting.
