Tioga County Voter Registration Days for Presidential Election Oct. 11, 13

(WBNG Binghamton) Local Voter Registration days will be held at Tioga County Board of Elections, 56 Main Street, Main Floor, Owego, NY on Thursday, October 11th from 8AM – 5 PM and Saturday, October 13th from 2 PM – 9 PM.

According to a news release:

To vote in New York State you must be a U. S. citizen, be 18 years old by the date of the primary or general election in which you wish to vote, live at your present address for at least 30 days before an election, not be in jail or on parole for a felony conviction or claim the right to vote elsewhere. You will need to show some form of identification. You can obtain registrations forms at your county Board of Elections on any business day, at your Town Clerk’s office, local post office, a state agency or from www.elections.ny.gov  and follow the prompt from the State Board of Elections page to download a Registration Form.  The deadline to postmark a newly registered voter form is Friday, October 12, 2012.  The Board of Elections must be in receipt of a voter’s change of address not later than Wednesday, October 17, 2012 in order to process your application to be eligible to vote at the correct polling location for the General Election on November 6th. 

A registered voter must apply to change their enrollment/political affiliation by completing a registration form.  A change of enrollment must be received by this office not later than Friday, October 12th to take effect one week after the General Election.  Enrollment changes received after October 12, 2012 will be held in a sealed enrollment box, per New York State Election Law, until one week after the November 2013 election.

Absentee Ballot applications are available daily during business hours of 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday through Friday or also from the website.  The Board of Elections will offer extended hours of 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM on Tuesday, October 23rd and 30th and Thursday, October 25th and November 1st,  along with Saturday, October 27th and November 3rd from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon to apply for and complete an Absentee Ballot.  Students who will be away at college planning to vote must apply annually for an Absentee Ballot.  Those with permanent health concerns may apply to be put on a Permanent Absentee Ballot List.  This request must include a complete medical reason to qualify under New York State Election Law.
