Candor, N.Y. (WBNG Binghamton) Residents in the Town of Candor and Village of Candor can drop off old tires and scrap metal free of charge this week.

The drop-off will take place on April 24 from 12 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., April 25 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., and April 26 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Residents can head to the Town Highway Garage, located at 33 Humiston St. in the Village of Candor for the drop off.

According to Tioga County's Department of Solid Waste and Water Quality Coordinating Committee, the cleanup will help minimize potential areas for mosquitoes to reproduce, reduce health-related problems transmitted through insects and vermin and assist in beautifying the town.

Up to eight tires per residential household will be accepted at no charge and up to an additional eight tires will be accepted for a fee of $2 per tire. The tires must be no larger than 19 inches.

Tires on rims will be taken at no charge and will not be included in the eight tire limit.

Any tires over 19 inches will count as two tires and up to four will be accepted at no charge. Up to four additional tires may be dropped off at $2 per tire.

Clean scrap metal will also be accepted at no charge.

Proof of Town of Candor or Village of Candor residency is required.
