Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Fitness should be about progress, not perfection.

Sage Wellness owner Sage Marie took that message to the Binghamton Rotary where she was guest speaker on Tuesday..
Marie has been teaching fitness classes for 23 years.

During the early part of her career, Marie found out she had a spinal disability and gained weight. She realized her clients didn't care about what she looked like. They just wanted to feel good.

Marie eventually lost eighty pounds and found herself in the position to be a role mode. She believes the fitness industry as a whole needs to change how it motivates people.

"We've been putting the failure rate back on our clients, telling them that it is their fault that they're not compliant with their exercise programs or they can't stick with their diet and that's really wrong, " said Marie.

She said the industry should be teaching people how to enjoy their diet and exercise program so they also enjoy the journey. Marie recommends finding a fitness strategy that makes you happy and will keep you coming back.
