(WBNG Binghamton) Weis Markets this week announced it will hold a Healthy Heart Event at its Rano Boulevard store in Vestal on Saturday, April 27 where it will make a $10,000 donation to the American Heart Association at 9:30 AM.

According to a news release:

The Healthy Heart event will kick off with the American Heart Association check presentation.  The money was raised through a customer check off program at all Broome County Weis Markets’ stores in February.

“The American Heart Association is supporting more than 60 research projects in Upstate New York and is generating greater awareness of how exercise and diet can help prevent heart disease. We’re proud of our customers and associates for supporting this important organization,” said Mike Umstead, Weis Markets’ District Manager.

Other events taking place at the store on Saturday include blood pressure screenings, healthy recipe samplings, giveaways and a Cart Smart Supermarket Tour at 10 a.m. where customers can learn more about shopping for healthy foods.   Tour participants will receive a gift pack featuring exclusive coupons and smart shopping resources valued at $15.
