Johnson City Dissolution: Too Close to Call

By WBNG News

It will come down to absentee ballots to decide whether Johnson City will dissolve into the Town of Union.

Just one vote separated results tonight.

2,139 against dissolution to 2,138 in favor.

That's right, it's separated by a single vote.

Up to 222 absentee ballots will still need to be counted in Johnson City.

The effort to dissolve the village began in 2006, with a grassroots effort and 32-hundred signatures.

Tonight's results were disappointing to those who were at the forefront of the effort to dissolve.

"I would have wished the village had voted one way or another and had a good majority one way or another," said John Sullivan, of Johnson City. "This way is quiet frankly there's a division of thought in Johnson City."

Three-fourths of Johnson City's 222 absentee ballots were returned as of yesterday.

Those absentee ballots will be counted November 12th.
