Eight involved in I-81 crash (with photos)

Town of Gibson, PA (WBNG Binghamton) An early Monday morning crash on Interstate 81 south required two helicopters to transport victims to area hospitals.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, the crash happened just before 4:45 a.m. Monday. It involved a box truck with three passengers and a Dodge Caravan with five passengers.

The truck was heading south when it went off the west side of the highway before hitting a rock ledge. The truck continued along the shoulder and hit the ledge for a second time before overturning on the driver side. The truck came to a rest blocking two lanes of traffic.

The mini van was traveling south in the right lane when it crashed into the truck.

Both vehicles stopped in the highway facing west.

Two people were flown in separate helicopters to CMC hospital in Scranton. All eight involved were taken to different hospitals for unknown injuries.

Pennsylvania State Police at Gibson responded to the scene, as well as crews from Hallstead, New Milford, Great Bend and Harford.

The crash remains under investigation.
