Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) One grocery chain is ready to "chop" the ribbon on a new store.

Price Chopper supermarkets will officially open their brand-new store at Foundry Plaza on Binghamton's West Side Sunday. Saturday, the chain offered a first look inside.

A suggested donation of $5 was asked of visitors to be given to the Binghamton Zoo, the American Heart Association, and the Broome County YMCA.

Price Chopper began building at Foundry Plaza in June, replacing an old store with new technology and space.

The old Price Chopper will be knocked down.

"Sometimes, it's easier to open in a new location across the street than to have the chaos of remodeling a store while we're still open, and have our customers go through that major disruption," said Price Chopper President and CEO Jerry Golub.

Price Chopper recently opened a new store on Route 12A in Chenango Bridge.

The Schenectady-based chain has other locations in Owego, Endicott, Norwich, and Delhi, to name a few.
