Bicyclist On Highway - Killed In Crash

Owego, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The New York State Police at Owego are investigating a fatal car and bicycle accident that occurred on State Route 17 in Apalachin.

It happened just after 6:00 a.m. on Monday near exit Exit 66 in Tioga County.

State Police say Abdul Wahid, 42, of Endicott, was riding a bicycle on Route 17 and was traveling westbound in the eastbound driving lane of the highway.

Wahid was struck by an oncoming vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The investigation into the accident is continuing.

The car has heavy front-end damage and the bicycle was bent and twisted.

One lane of traffic was closed as crews were on the scene but both lanes of traffic have since been reopened.

The State Police were assisted at the scene by members of the Apalachin Fire Department, Apalachin EMS, and the New York State Department of Transportation.
