Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Local celebrity amateur chefs put their cooking skills to the test.

Men Who Cook is a cook-off to raise money for the Mental Health Association of the Southern Tier.

For the past few weeks, 23 teams have been busy creating their hopefully award-winning dishes.

On Friday, the teams served their samples to a crowd of more than 350 people. There was non-stop activity with lines of people crowded around the tables.

"You look up and all of a sudden you see someone you know, like just now, and you kind of make connections, but you're trying to serve as much food as possible," said Thomas Hackett from Nothwestern Mutual.

The chefs prepared dishes from steak to pumpkin ice cream.

Action News anchor Dave Greber made a dry rub, center-cut sirloin steak with a grilled corn salad.

"It's really great to see everyone here socializing, having some food, really having a good time, but all for a good cause and that's the Mental Health Association," said Greber.

Chief Meteorologist Howard Manges was one of those socializing and sampled Greber's work.

"Dave's meal was delicious in person when we shot the commercial and I think the meal here is even better," said Howard.

Greber walked away with an award. His meal was picked for the "best tasting" category.
