Afton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Students are evacuated from Afton Central School as crews respond to a fire.

The call came it around 12:30 p.m. on Monday.

Firefighters say workers were heat sealing a part of the school, when fire spread behind a panel and into the inside of a wall.

Smoke could be seen from the intersection of Myrtle and Sand Avenues.

Fire crews were using a ladder to head to the roof as students were evacuated from the building.

Bainbridge, Afton and Harpursville firefighters responded.

It took crews about 90 minutes to control the flames, after tearing apart some of the school's structure to get inside the wall.

Firefighters say no children were in danger during the incident, and no injuries were reported.
