Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) An unoccupied house is destroyed after a fire early Tuesday morning.

Fire crews were called at approximately 2:15 a.m., Tuesday to 476 Underwood Rd.

Chief Patrick McPherson, of the Vestal Fire Department, says the home had been unoccupied and there were no active utilities.

When fire crews arrived, he says the home was fully engulfed.

"The fire was knocked down within an hour and a half of us being here," McPherson said. "After it's been knocked down, we're having some problems with some hot spots right now. There was a lot of stuff in the house and everything went into the basement. We're having problems getting to the fire that is inside the basement.

McPherson said mutual aid was required from across the Triple Cities and Tioga County, including Conklin and the town of Binghamton.

"Everybody was here to help us along the way today and we thank them," he said.

Broome fire investigators were on the scene on Tuesday to look into the cause of the fire.
