Meth arrests in ongoing fire investigation (with photos)

Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Binghamton Police arrested two people after a fire investigation revealed evidence of a meth lab in their burned apartment.

Christopher Osborne, 23, and Ashley Ottaviani, 23, were charged with manufacturing meth and possession of a controlled substance.

The Binghamton Fire Department responded to the fire at 23 Baxter St. around 8:30 a.m. Thursday.

The fire was in the kitchen of a second floor apartment. There are four total apartments in the two-story home.

Five adults and two children were in the apartment at the time, but got out safely.

When crews arrived, there were no visible flames. According to reports from the scene, the fire was out around 8:43 a.m. The fire was contained to one apartment.

"Made an aggressive attack to the second floor, we had heavy smoke coming out of the front of the building and the side D, which would be the right side of the building," Binghamton Fire Department Assistant Chief Sam Santoni said.

The Binghamton Police Detective Bureau is working with the Binghamton Fire Marshal's Office along with the New York State Police Contaminated Crime Scene Response Team in this investigation.
