Flooding Closes Schnurbusch Park in Conklin

Conklin, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Heavy rain came down during the early morning hours and brought some major flooding to some local spots.

Instead of a packed Memorial Day, high water levels throughout Schnurbusch Park in Conklin will cancel family activities today.

Swing sets and even the park's baseball field are under about two feet of water.

The flooding is forcing picnics and even swimming in the community pool to be cancelled. Even people who live around the park say they have water in their homes.

"I know that we had a huge amount of rain last night, but I am concerned that the amount we had did this much damage because it shouldn't have," says Town of Conklin Supervisor Debbie Preston. "So highway is on it's way so we can backtrack this and see if something is blocking it some place."

The town is working on solving occasional flooding at Schnurbusch Park. It will be closed until further notice.
