Southport, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Four people were arrested after the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office found $2,000 worth of heroin in an apartment.
On May 14 at 8:23 p.m., deputies responded to 816 Pennsylvania Ave., Apartment 2N, in the Town of Southport for an investigation.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the arrests made were part of a six month, ongoing investigation into drug sales from this address.
Once inside, deputies found heroin and marijuana.
Two tenants, William Veruto, 44, and Rebecca Rice, 31, were arrested in the apartment.
Veruto and Rice were both charged with possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree for heroin possession, a class A misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.
In addition, Veruto was charged with criminal nuisance in the second degree, a class B misdemeanor.
Justin Pagan, 23, and Robert Ruiz, 33, both of the Bronx, New York, were located in the apartment and found to be in possession of heroin and marijuana.
Pagan was charged with possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree and unlawful possession of marijuana.
Ruiz was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree for possessing heroin, and unlawful possession of marijuana.
The street value of the heroin was estimated to be $2,000.
Ruiz was taken to the Chemung County Jail without bail.
Veruto, Rice, and Pagan were taken to the Chemung County Jail in lieu of $2,000 cash bail.
The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Elmira Drug Enforcement Unit.
