Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Two new animals are making a howling debut. There are now monkeys at the Binghamton Zoo at Ross Park.

The Binghamton Zoo showed off a pair of howler monkeys named Carlitta and Diego for the first time Friday morning.

The duo arrived about two weeks ago from a zoo in South Carolina.

Carlitta is 15 years old and Diego is 11 years old.

Director of the Binghamton Zoo at Ross Park Steven Contento said the zoo answered the call of the community when they brought in the monkeys.

"The community has requested us to consider returning monkeys to the zoo collection for a number of years and it's been two decades since we've had an official monkey here," Contento said.

Friday morning was the first time Carlitta was out playing in the exhibit. Diego has yet to make an appearance.

Howler monkeys are one of the largest of the new world monkeys.

Carlitta and Diego are in the old red panda exhibit right by the entrance of the zoo.

The red pandas have moved across the walkway next to the lemurs.
