Whitney Point, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A home catches fire from a lightning strike Thursday evening.
The Whitney Point Fire Department responded around 6 p.m. to a call of a fire at 2757 E. Main St. in the village. Upon arrival, firefighters said they saw a small fire in the back of the house and signs of a lightning strike.
Firefighters said lightning struck a tree that had power and cable lines running through it. The lightning then traveled down those line to the back of the house, blowing out nearby windows and collapsing part of the roof.
Firefighters said the home owners were inside at the time, but no one was injured.
The homeowner tells Action News all electronics and circuits in the house are destroyed.
