Owego Landmark Reopens

December 15, 2011 Updated Dec 15, 2011 at 6:41 PM EDT

Owego, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Order up for a Owego favorite. The Harris Diner on North Avenue is open again this week after September's floods forced it to close.

If you're a regular, the inside looks different. The diner has been here since 1924 relatively unchanged.

Sam Harris has owned it since the 80's. The grill was saved from flood waters -- that's about it.

Two feet flooded the dining room.

Patrons, and the folks who work there are glad to return.

"I'm very happy, because it's my whole life," Sam Harris said. "I'm very happy that Owego came back from where they came from. It's been a long haul. It's been that way for the entire area actually"

Sam's mom has been helping him run the diner for years. The diner will be open from 5:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

At least for now, Harris will also be open Saturdays and Sundays from 7:00 a.m. to Noon.
