Oxford, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Oxford community held a day full of events in observance of Memorial Day.
A garland was thrown into the Chenango River to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice. They also held a 21-gun salute at the foot bridge.
The morning started with a wreath laying at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.
Oxford's American Legion's Fort Hill Post No. 376 saluted and placed wreaths at veterans' graves.
"They are heroes to us," said Dale Dewey, veteran and member of the Legion, "Thank you to all the vets. Thank you for our freedom and thank you to all of the people who support us vets."
People marched down the street in support of veterans for a parade in Oxford. The day's events continued with a chicken barbeque.
