Counterfeit coin suspects arrested

Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Binghamton police said two men suspected of defrauding local second-hand businesses by selling counterfeit silver dollar coins were arrested in Syracuse.

A surveillance camera caught several images of the suspects at Toms Cards and Gifts on Main Street .

Police said Camelot Jewelers on Clinton Street was also defrauded by the duo.

When arrested in Syracuse the suspects identified themselves as William Thompson, 34, who also goes by the name of Jaimes Reinaud and Juan Carlos Mendez, 27, who also goes by the name of Jezan Leon-Barahona.

The US Secret Services is involved in the investigation along with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Both men had previously been deported from the US.

Police are also investigating similar reports of counterfeit coins sold to businesses in Tioga County.
