Chenango, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Local law enforcement officers were out Friday morning to support the third annual “Cops on Top.” It’s an event where donations are collected for the Special Olympics.
Dunkin' Donuts on Upper Front Street helped raise money for the Special Olympics of New York. Troopers got up on the roof of the building to say "thank you" to everyone who donated.
"The people here have been extremely generous.” said Major Donald Faughnan. “It's been a tremendous outpouring from the community for the Special Olympics."
Several locations throughout New York also held the event Friday. Those who donated got a free medium coffee.
People who gave $20 were handed an official Cops on Top t-shirt. $50 donations were given a one pound bag of coffee.
This year, local law enforcement, volunteers and athletes raised nearly $35,000 from donations gathered at 29 local Dunkin' Donuts stores in the Troop C and Troop D areas.
Events like this give the gift of sport to nearly 65,000 athletes of the Special Olympics in New York.
