Splashing Into Summer

Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Memorial Day is also the unofficial start to summer. The first splash into the pool is one sign of its arrival.

Kids, and the young at heart, lined up to jump in the pool at Rec Park in Binghamton well before gates opened at noon.

It's a refreshing treat for kids -- and some parents too.

"It's nice being out of work and being able to take them, spend some time," Jennifer Kaminisky, of Johnson City. She brought her nephews for some fun in the pool.

"I haven't been in the pool since last summer, this is going to be really fun. It's been a long time since I've been in the pool," says Brandon Jefferson, of Binghamton.

He has a strategy to jumping in.

"My favorite part is jumping in and warming up because it's hot outside. So you need to get a little warmth every once in a while," he says.

Jennifer Kaminisky's strategy is simple - "Just diving in, getting cool."

Pools at Cheri Lindsay, MacArthur, Columbus and Fairview parks will open June 16th.
