Town of Chenango, NY (WBNG Binghamton) She's behind the wheel in emergency calls in the Town of Chenango and she's only in high school.

Sierra Torillo, a senior at Chenango Forks High School, was one of more than a dozen students recognized at the Senior Awards ceremony Wednesday morning.

She has been a volunteer for Chenango Ambulance Services Inc. for two years and is an active member of the company.

Her role is to drive the ambulance to calls.

"Sometimes it's kind of hard because sometimes if I'm at school, I have to leave and go on calls and I'll miss class and stuff like that," said Torillo. "I go there with my uncle a lot so he helps me out, get my classes done and I'm taking my EMT course over the summer. It's a good thing to do and stay involved with."

To join the company, Torillo had to undergo a driver training program, learn how to use the equipment and receive CPR training.

She plans to go into the Army and become a medic.
