Three People Injured in 1-81 South Accident

A tractor trailer rolled down an embankment off I-81 South in Lenox, Susquehanna County

Lenox, PA (WBNG Binghamton) A tractor trailer hauling a windmill tower was involved in an accident with an SUV on Interstate 81 South in Susquehanna County.

"The two vehicles were traveling south bound. Apparently they got together continued over the bank. We had three injuries, three individuals transported to the hospital," said Jeffrey Burman with Pennsylvania State Police.

State Police say Robert Shave, 65 and Nora Shave, 63, of Schenectady we in the SUV and had serious injuries. Perry Nievinski, 42, of Mosinee, Wisconsin, was the driver of the tractor trailer and also transported with serious injuries.

Troopers say the Shave's vehicle lost control in the left lane and spun 180 degrees hitting the guard rail. The tractor trailer then hit the Shave vehicle and both broke through and traveled down an embankment.

Part of the trailer came to rest on the SUV.

A stretch Interstate 81 South was shut down for about an hour.

Crews wanted to wait until weather cleared to pull up the windmill tower.
