Town of Tioga, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Friends and family are remembering the life of the Tioga County man who police say was killed in an early morning hit-and-run accident on Saturday.

New York State Police said Daniel Manwaring was running along West Witcomb Hill Road in Tioga County with his wife Karen when the two were hit by an SUV.

Daniel, 41, was pronounced dead at the scene and his wife was rushed to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

He is being remembered a hardworking and faithful family man.

"He was a shinning light in a dark world that made his little area of the world a better place to be," said Matthew Shipman, a co-worker of Daniel.

Shipman was one of hundreds of people who showed for a candlelight vigil at Tioga Center High School in memory of Daniel.

"He was a great family man and he was a great boss," said Shipman.

Lit candles were held surrounding the high school football field as music played from a public address speaker.

"It's humbling to see a community like this come together for each other just to honor Dan," said Sandy Williams, a friend of the Manwaring family. "Dan was incredibly kind and he never had a harsh word to say to anybody."

Daniel leaves behind his wife Karen and four children.

A website has been set up where donations can be sent to support the family's emergency fund. Click here for more information.

New York State Police have arrested 33-year-old Jason Townsend of Nichols in connection to the accident. He is charged with leaving the scene of an incident without reporting.
