Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has closed a portion of Vestal Road to remove an abandoned railroad bridge.
The road will be closed between Sycamore and North Jensen Roads.
DOT crews will be removing the old railroad bridge over the next few days.
The railroad bridge has a low clearance and keeps some large trucks from traveling this part of Vestal Road.
The DOT says removing the bridge now will help relieve traffic congestion and make driving in the area safer this summer, when the Route 201 Bridge over the Vestal Parkway will be closed for replacement work.
Vestal Road between Sycamore and North Jensen Roads will be closed until work is completed around February 25.
