Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A powerful storm left its mark in the Southern Tier Thursday, leaving downed power lines, scattered tree limbs and closed roads.
Broome County EMS coordinator said there was severe damage in parts of the county, especially in Vestal, Conklin, and the City of Binghamton.
Emergency responders were expecting worse.
The EMS Coordinator attributes cooperation among local municipalities for a quick response to clear roads.
The most common damage Thursday was debris falling and blocking roads, but there were circumstances that were dangerous.
"The most serious thing I'm aware of and the only one in that resulted in any significant injury to a person was in the Town of Vestal. A tree fell on a home and trapped on individual briefly," said Raymond Serowik, Broome EMS Coordinator.
Action News went to that home at 148 Lincoln Drive to see the damage.
By the time our crew could get to the scene everyone was safe.
Laura Corson returned from work to find the storm just beginning.
When the wind blew over a tree she was then trapped in her bathroom.
She says her first reaction was shock.
"Things kept on falling and falling and it felt like forever and I just thought everything was going to collapse on me so I was a little hysterical but that's just because everything wouldn't stop falling." said Corson.
Corson says emergency responders were at her house within minutes of her call to 911.
No other serious injuries were reported on Thursday because of the storm.
