Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A $5 million renovation project is on its way to one Binghamton business, as the owner of the Ben Weitsman yard is ready to make some upgrades.

The company is based in Owego and has a few sites in the Twin Tiers.

Adam Weitsman says the scrap processing site on the Brandywine Highway will soon be up to the same environmental and operational standards as the other locations.

Increased customer traffic is one reason for the investment.

The plans include demolition of some old buildings to make way for new construction. Also, a full landscaping job.

Weitsman says once the upgrades are complete at the Binghamton site, all of the Upstate Shredding locations will be operating with state-of-the-art equipment.

The company is the largest privately held scrap processor in the eastern United States.
