Town of Dickinson, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A hot day has people seeking out a cool treat.

Jones Humdinger has been serving homemade ice cream to the Greater Binghamton area for the last 55 years.

The most popular summer flavors are cookie dough, mint chocolate chip, and sherbet.

The shop tends to sell more hard ice cream than soft when it's hot.

Owner Steven Kallfelz said the business cycle has a lot to do with the weather.

"If it's getting rainy, I cut the payroll. If it's going to be sunny and hot, I call them up and say, get ready it's going to get hot. Be early. I really pay attention to what the weatherman says," said Kallfelz.

The most ideal weather for an ice cream shop is one that fluctuates from hot to cold.
