NYRI Lawsuit Dismissed

By Candace Chapman

A law that prevents energy companies from using eminent domain, will stand in New York.

But it may not be enough to stop a high voltage power line from being built through our area.

A federal judge Friday dismissed a lawsuit filed by New York Regional Interconnect.

NYRI has applied to build a nearly 200 mile high voltage transmission line through upstate New York.

The State Legislature passed a law that prevents energy companies from using eminent domain to take land for their projects.

Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo was among those named in NYRI's lawsuit because she was a prime sponsor.

But while the state law stands, NYRI could still try to get around it by seeking approval through a federal energy corridor law.
