International Enrollment Is Also Up With 22 New Students-

Broome Community College President Dr. Laurence Spraggs today highlighted the latest enrollment statistics, which show total student enrollment, is on the rise for the spring 2008 semester.

“The fact that enrollment is increasing despite a continued population loss underscores the caliber of educational services we provide to our students and this community,” said President Dr. Laurence Spraggs. “BCC continues to be a top choice for area high school seniors because of the College’s strong academic programs.”

As of Friday, January 18th, enrollment for the spring 2008 semester is 5,292. This equates to an increase of 2.52% in students compared to spring 2007. Approximately 44% of spring 2008 students are enrolled in Liberal Arts, with 18% studying Business and Public Services and 27% in an Applied Science curriculum. We also have 11% that are non-matriculated.

There are also 22 new international students, which bring the total number of international students to 187 for the spring 2008 semester. The 187 students come from 45 countries including, Senegal, Mozambique, Thailand, Austria, Cameroon, Macedonia and India.

“The twenty-two new students represent the largest one semester increase in enrollment among international students that we’ve seen in at least five years,” said Beverly Plowucha, International Student Counselor. “Even with international students transferring to four-year school or completing their program, we are continuing to see significant increases in international student enrollment.”
