By WBNG News

Overwhelming approval by taxpayers Tuesday night, for improvements in 2 Broome County school districts.

First, the Owego-Apalachin District will move forward with a 13.6 million dollar capital improvements project.

It passed by a vote of 535-176.

Plans include a new roof and heating system at the high school.

Also, new football field lighting and locker room renovations.

OA also wants to put these interactive Smart Boards in every classroom.

The plans will not raise school property taxes.

Taxpayers also approved using 2.35 million dollars from the capital reserve fund, which along with a state grant and state building aid, will cover the cost.

And taxpayers in the Whitney Point District have approved the purchase of new buses.

The proposition passed by a vote of 120 to 23.

The district wants to to replace 3 large buses.

Plus, two mini buses for smaller runs like to BOCES or special education classes.

The district says the vehicles will have higher fuel efficiency and safety standards.

It plans to recover the 38-thousand dollar cost through state transportation aid.
