Serling's Story Uncensored

Serling's Story Uncensored

By WBNG News

New this morning, an untold story by a local legend, will finally be heard...

Twilight Zone creator Rod Serling's story "Noon on Doomsday" will be read Saturday during a conference celebrating his life at Ithaca College.

It's based on the story of 14-year-old Emmett Till , a black boy who was killed back in 1955 after whistling at a white woman.

The two men accused of murdering the boy are acquitted, only to later admit to the crime.

The case and the decision to display Till's battered body at his funeral helped gain support for the civil rights movement.

Serling's efforts to dramatize the case were blocked by sponsors and network executives.

In the end, a pair of censored versions aired.

Sterling's Frustration lead him to begin writing "the Twilight Zone."

The award-winning writer taught at Ithaca from 1967 until he died in 1975.

Serling also grew up in the area, graduating from Binghamton High School.
