Reservoirs To Release Water To Reduce Flood Risk

By Candace Chapman

Reservoirs in the Catskills will let out more water this month to reduce flood risks.

New York City manages the reservoirs like Cannonsville which provide the city's drinking water.

Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell asked it release more water to reduce the risk of flooding along the Delaware River.

Between 2004 and 2006 3 major floods have caused death and millions of dollars worth of destruction.

Each time the reservoirs were at or near capacity when flooding rains came.

Rendell says more than 8 billion gallons of water will flow out of 3 reservoirs through the end of April.
