Walk Supports SOS Shelter

By WBNG News

People lace up and hit the mall...

To support a cause worth walking for.

The SOS Shelter held its first ever "Annual Walk Against Domestic Violence" at the Oakdale Mall in Johnson City.

The Shelter is a non-profit organization that provides safe housing for victims of domestic abuse.

Close to 75 people teamed up to walk 5 laps around the mall.

They helped raise more than 5-thousand dollars.

The shelter says domestic violence is an issue that shouldn't go unnoticed.

"What people need to be aware of, the community needs to be aware of is that domestic violence is prevalent in our area, and they need to know that the SOS Shelter is there for women and children who are victims of domestic violence," says Deborah Lewis of the SOS Shelter.

Funds raised will go to support women and children who are victims of domestic violence.
