Disaster Drill For Nursing Students

Disaster Drill For Nursing Students

By WBNG News

Binghamton University nursing students train with the community to respond to a mass emergency.

This is BU's annual disaster drill at the Events Center.

The scenario this year was a tornado hitting a nursing home.

Decker School of Nursing students practiced treating everything from a life threatening injury to a sprained ankle.

"Disaster nursing is part of a team effort, and it has to be part of responding with the community, the community can't do it alone and neither can nursing or the healthcare system. You have to have interaction" says Laura Kasey of the Decker School of Nursing.

More than 200 students and people from Wilson Medical Center, The American Red Cross and Susquehanna Nursing Home participated in the drill.
