Testimony Begins in Sacco, O'Connor Case

Testimony Begins in Sacco, O'Connor Case

By WBNG News

A Norwich police officer takes the stand and testifies about 2 recorded phone calls between the victim and Dean Sacco.

And the jury also sees two videotaped interviews of the girl talking about the alleged abuse.

Lisa Peebles is the Attorney for Linda O'Connor.

During her opening statement, Peebles says the government's case is based on sex, lies and NO videotape.

She says while there is information linking the victim to Dean Sacco, there's no evidence O'Connor committed a crime.

Peeble says Sacco tried to evict O'Connor in December 2007 because of unpaid rent.

She argues that proves O'Connor and Sacco did not have a deal to trade the girl for sex.

Also, O'Connor also received government assistance to pay rent.

The prosecutions first witness is Sgt. Patrick Blenis with the Norwich Police Department.

He played 2 taped phone conversations between the victim and Dean Sacco from March 2007.

The victim told Sacco she was afraid she was pregnant and wanted to know if he used protection.

Sacco tried to avoid the conversation, saying he could get in trouble if people knew they had sex.

The victim was 13 at the time.

Sacco was arrested less than a week after the taped phone calls.

Jurors also saw two videotaped interviews from last October and again in December.

The girl told investigators that O'Connor took pictures of one rape.

And she claims O'Connor gave her Vicoden before Sacco raped her another time.

Testimony continues tomorrow.
