Police Week Awards
Police Memorial Week continues with the departments 2008 Awards Ceremony.
Binghamton recognized 23 officers and 4 civilians. Including officers who received Life Saving Awards for rescuing people from the Eldridge Street apartment fire on April 25. "We were evacuating and we could see some small children in the front window. At that point you know you don't really think about what you're doing you just do what you have to do, you know, to get them out," said officer Dave Baer. "It's a very humbling experience I mean it is nice to get recognized by your co-workers and your bosses at work for a job well-done so, it feels good," said officer Conor Heslin. Officer Heslin was the first person on the scene at the fire. He helped bring a mother and her baby to safety. Officer Baer was injured during the rescue. The case was ruled arson and police are investigating to find whoever started the fire. |
