The Cost Of Showering Mom With Flowers

Mother's Day is one of the busiest holidays for florists.

And one local flower shop is in the weeds keeping up with the orders.

Most people aren't cutting corners when it comes to showering mom with flowers.

No price is too low...or too high to spend on mom.

Floral arrangements at Dillenbeck's in Johnson City start around 25-dollars.

And if you really want to wow mom, you can hit the triple digits.

Cheryl Fritsch the manager of Dillenbeck's says, "There are people who call in, they really want to show their mom how much they love them, and ya know, 100, 125, 200 dollar arrangements."

Despite a lagging economy, Dillenbeck's says business this Mother's Day is right on target.

To offset soaring gas prices, it increased its delivery price-50 cents.

But that's an increase people are willing to absorb for the one they love.

Phillip Smith of Windsor adds, "Don't cut corners, didn't even enter into my consciousness, didn't even think about it. Just buy the flowers."

One way people can get more for their money is to buy potted plants.

They last longer than fresh cut flowers.

Steve D'Vileskis runs a flower stand on East Main Street in Endwell.

"There are people that are wanting to spend a little bit less because of the economy and the price of gas."

Potted plants can cost less, but might be more practical.

"It's something that they can have, more than just the next week or 2 weeks, they can have it maybe even next year."

And it's a gift that keeps on giving.

Dillenbeck's says it tough to tell which is busier...Mother's Day or Valentine's Day.
