Big Dig Project

If you live in Tioga County you may have noticed preparations for a huge construction project.

Central New York Oil and Gas is getting ready to connect to the Millenium Pipeline.

Action News Reporter Jessica Light tells us what the connection will mean to customers.

Construction crews are getting ready to tackle a massive piping project in Tioga County.

Central New York Oil and Gas will start laying about 10 miles of this piping in the next few weeks.

It will stretch from a compressor station, where the company stores natural gas, to the existing Millenium Pipeline project.

"Customers buy gas from, buy gas, we store it for them and when they want it we put it back out. What this does is tie into Millenium, gives us another shipper." says Randy Parker, Construction Manager for Central New York Oil and Gas.

The Millenium Pipeline will stretch more than 400 miles from Canada, through the Southern Tier to New York City.

The additional natural gas it will deliver could mean a larger customer base for Central New York Oil and Gas.

It's connecting pipe will be laid about 130 feet underground running beneath the Susquehanna River, Route 17 and 17C here in Tioga County.

"We have to be very particular on how we go through environmentally sensitive areas. Obviously the Susquehanna is a big environmentally sensitive area, as is the Brick Pond so that is why we have drilled to go underneath that." says Parker.

Parker says all property owners who will be affected by the project have been notified.
