Libous Allocates $750,000 Outside His District

By Jessica Light

Libous is moving his Books Program to SUNY Morrisville, a campus outside his State Senate district.

He's allocating more than 750 thousand dollars from his share of the member items budget.

That money will fund the Books Program for two years.

It encourages children and their families to make reading a priority.

For the past 5 years, the Four County Library System has run the program.

But Libous says a college is a better fit.

He says "I think doing it through a college makes more sense, especially one that trains teachers, or students to become kindergarten and elementary teachers we can use those student teachers to work within the program too... Its just a natural fit."

Libous says SUNY Morrisville hopes to find a location in Binghamton to house the program.

Asked about other local colleges, Libous says Binghamton University is too big for the program.
